Takin' it back....

I spent the better part of the day in the back yard yesterday, doing massive clean-up. It's been a pretty awful season here for gardening--we went from cold and raining to oh-my-god-too-hot-to-do-ANYTHING in about three and a half seconds, so there wasn't much opportunity to try to get a leg-up on things and do a proper spring cleaning before all ( Read more... )

I'd like to plant some shrubs out front of my place, but we're in the too-hot-to-breath weather, so.....I'm working on the INSIDE instead.

I was planning on gardening but it went from RAIN to OM MY GOD it's HOT with no gap in between. If I'm lucky I'll get some done in the cool of the evening, provided it doesn't decide to rain again.

Power tools do make the job much easier.

You'll have to get annuals that self-seed then all you have to pick out are the weeds.

Now if you could only train the squirrels to plant what you want and where you want it!

If you need perennials, let me know - I have a few that will be in need of dividing, though I'll have to look them up to see if it should be done in the spring or fall. I have bleeding heart, hostas, and french lavender that could use a bit more room. The butterfly bushes I planted in the back have REALLY taken off, so I might be able to pull a few babies from the base. Same with the Southern hibiscus. The flowers on that are the size of plates.
I started phasing out the annuals about two years ago - just couldn't keep up with it, especially with the fibro. The few annuals I have are in containers on the porch.

I've got to do my own hostas--they're the size of sofa cushions. However, if you have some that have a bunch of white on them, or the golden variety, I've been thinking about putting some at the base of the oak in the front yard. I have blue ones, but I think they'd be too dark for the look I want--it needs some light spaces.

Oooh, and I think the hibiscus would be nice in the back, on either side of the stairs. I have little tiny beds set up back there, but they only have lily of the valley in them, and once spring is over, it's kind of meh.

What color are they? Are they the pinky-white ones?

Fuschia. I'll look back through my photos later today and see if I have a pic of them in bloom from last year.

Even better.

That bright spot would be nice back there, I think.
