That's exactly what I'm going to do

I've been sitting here this morning, reading LJ and watching the news and getting increasingly WTF-ish about the things I'm seeing and hearing. Teenage girls resolving to get pregnant in order to "receive that unconditional love you can only get from a baby" (that's why you HAVE babies, you know--so that you can have someone in your life that you ( Read more... )

news, family, day to day life, wine, yard work, gratitude

there used to be a tv show - daytime (morning) in the UK during the school summer holidays, called "Why Don't You Turn Off Your TV And Go Outside To Do Something More Interesting Instead?"

fascinating show - one would stay in to watch it :-)

I used to go outside a LOT more than I do, but now, after having been out there for a couple of hours, I feel a lot better than I've felt in awhile.

It feels good to get out there among the green things.

And yes--it helps that there really isn't much on TV! ;-)

I used to take them at their word and switched the TV off.

"that's why you HAVE babies, you know"... I think that's why my mother had children...
I am so glad you had a good anniversary!

It was great.

Paul actually felt well enough to go out and GRILL, and he was hopping up and down the back steps, going back and forth between the back yard and the kitchen, with nary a slip. And he felt GOOD about it!

And of course, his dinner was just delicious, as usual.

He's a grill GOD! ;-)

Seriously, besides wanting to give you both massive hugs, I want to come visit to learn how to cook.

It's nice to be married to someone who likes to cook, and who does it really well.

We've decided that part of the reason we're well matched is that we have the same attitudes about food, and we like to put meals on the table together. He did the steaks and the lobster tails and the corn on the grill, and I put together a pasta thing with garlic and Romano cheese, and it was a pretty sumptuous, decadent meal.

We both like the good things in life, that's for sure!

And YEAH--it would be fun to play in the kitchen with you!

"I need to get out into the sunshine and get my hands in a cleaner form of dirt..."

I'm w/ you here in regard to the cleaner form of dirt - scanning the morning newspaper takes less and less time as I avoid so much of the stupidity.
No new plants this year but I plan to rectify that today - see what the local nursery up the road still has available that I can put in the big pots on the front porch. They take good care of their plants so it's not a total waste of time.

Even if I don't plant anything new this year, there are plenty of things out there needing attention, but it would be nice to have a little sumpin-sumpin in the annual bed, and a couple of tomato plants would make me happy, too!

I've been curious about iced cider since I read about it, I'll have to keep an eye out for some

I will advise you, it's REALLY sweet--it's definitely a dessert wine, and you don't need much to be satisfied. But it is a fruit sweet--VERY strongly concentrated apple flavor.

But if you like apple cider, you'll like it.

The Cyser I made is probably going to be a dessert drink, the yeast I used leaves a bit of sweetness as is, and on top of that the cider was fortified with about 18 pounds of honey.

I have to recommend this beer if you want something different http://www.foundersbrewing.com/beer_styles.php?recordID=6. I couldn't even tell there was 7% abv to it

Oh, man, that sounds GOOD--both what you've made (which sounds downright mead-y, and what's at the link.

I do like fruit stuff in the summer--there's something about a fruity drink that is just more refreshing than anything else. And raspberry is one of my favorites.

Ice cider sounds interesting.
Is that anything like "apple jack"?
My dad used to home brew cider and then freeze distil it to make applejack. It was delicious but very potent!
