I'm pretty sure we made it up to avoid the totally awful "wife beater". Of course, sometimes when you are sure you've made something up, you find that it already exists out there in the world, so of course it's possible that someone else has thought of it independently.

Are you familiar with the "wife beater" shirt? It's that. But we hate that term, so we made one up to replace it.
