Premise: About Anachronismos
In a land of myth and a time of truly indeterminate nature, the destiny of a kingdom rests on the shoulders of a young boy...
If you are a fan of the BBC's show, Merlin, you've likely seen the 2009 Children in Need Special. Those of us with a sharp eye have noticed the everyday anachronisms in the show-- let's just say that the beer cans were hilarious. But, like Pudsey, lets take it one step (leap) further. Let's give Gaius a microwave, give Merlin a fondness for Chicken Tikka Masala and papadums, give Morgana a blowdryer, Uther a Blackberry, and then, let's set up the internet. In Camelot.
It's a Dark Magic that has taken hold of Camelot, a dark magic of anachronisms. Does Merlin have a ratty old desktop with a box monitor shoved in the corner of his tower room? Does Arthur take great pride in his MacBook Air? Does Uther check the castle forums for any hints of sorcery? Does Gaius have a database of medicinal plants? The possibilities, are, quite literally, endless.
The premise of this game, like many others on livejournal, is a primarily "internet" based method of communication. Posts to
anachronismos can be either a forum-style post or an action log. The setting is, at heart, the Camelot of the show, but with the added bits and bobs that the Children in Need special gives us. This is not a full modern AU: there is still magic, the knights still ride on horses, and have tournaments. There are kings and queens and princes and princesses, the kingdoms are at war, Albion is not united, they live in a big, drafty castle. But we do have elements of our modern world, these anachronisms that give the game its name.
The canon-point is the S1/S2 break, playing with a mind towards S2 with an anachronistic twist and flair. The plot does not have to follow the exact plot of the show, but we'd love to see aspects of it come into play. Some spoilers are to be expected, so if you've not yet seen Season 2, please be wary as spoilers will likely not be marked. Any and all characters of the Merlin canon are possible for application, with a little effort in some cases. Maybe Nimueh, in this turn of events, isn't dead, and perhaps she hacks into the CamelotWeb to torment Uther. Make it realistic and we can work with it.
And above all else, we're here to have fun!
