Chickenshit At The Night Market

We went off to Chinatown a couple of days ago to the very first Night Market. It was pleasant, but not nearly as evocative as the name. It was organized by the youth group as a part of the Neighborhood Night Out campaign. One of my most archetypal Berkeley experiences, a bunch of years ago, I was in North Berkeley (where the liberals drive BMWs), on my way back to the friend's place where I was staying (in the hills on the AC county line -- you can see six counties while you watch the sun set through the Golden Gate -- it's where she was born), and I wanted some munchies, so I spent my last two bucks on a big bag of potato chips.
A 'street person' ("bum" Back East) panhandled me. I told him I didn't have any money on me, and offered him some potato chips. He asked if they were salted, because his doctor had him on a low-sodium diet.
