Lameness of the century

I got a PM (will leave sender anon unless they tell me otherwise) about some girl who posted my Roxas wig tutorial on Youtube...

"xxOMGgalxx used your Roxas wig tutorial in her video. Her video is basically her taping her computer screen as she reads your tutorial. I'm not sure what you wanted to do about it, so I'll just put the link below.

Well, to be fair, she's (1) a kid and (2) given you the credit for the information.

She thought your tutorial was helpful and worthwhile and spread it to a wider (possibly illiterate) audience.

I don't think that's a bad thing, but then I publish pretty much everything I put online under creative commons or free software licenses...

It's too quiet for me to hear well (even w/ the volume cranked to the max), but I thought she made some mention at the beginning about my "copyright" stuff on the post sounding kind of scary. Which makes me wonder, if she read that far, why she didn't bother asking permission at all. Clicking "comment" is not very hard on a forum. -_-;;

I've let all sorts of people re-post it before...but with permission. I'm pretty easy going as long as they give credit. It's the not even asking + straight out reading part that irks me. Doesn't even bother me enough to say it irritates or pisses me off...just irks a bit (with a hint of "WTF is this?" included)? O.o;;

The very quiet credit part: "Okay, this [version?] is from Amy the Yu, Uber-Otaku. I am thanking her completely; all credit goes to her for this tutorial. I'm going to be putting a link. I just want to help her out, plus I wanna help you guys out with everything 'cuz the bottom part, the copyright thing was kind of scary, as I think everybody else would think. You guys can read it and everything."

I dunno. You're well within your rights to demand permission, I just think it's kind of a hassle to enforce and ultimately doesn't get you anything meaningful. But that's me.

Not so much the permission part. I think I just like people asking cause it gives me a heads up as to where my stuff's being reposted. I don't want to be associated with shifty and/or annoying people/sites, so it's nice to have the ability to reject it instead of finding out some random kid did such and such. Winnie had her photo put in a pseudo porn site. The site owner/maintainer never tried to claim anything as his own (gave credit here and there), but still shifty/gross site no one wants to be associated with...

As far as I'm aware of, Roxas wig itself has been proclaimed by 2 other people as their creation and had 3 people attempt to sell it on eBay (one actually pretended to be me on eBay)...even though it lives in my basement in a box. I can't even count how many times my c.com stuff has been stolen/been featured in eBay auctions. I think at this point, I'm at least allowed to be wary/annoyed if someone just goes and takes things, with or without credit.

And if "the copyright thing was kind of scary", is she playing the ( ... )

BEST ENTRY EVER.

Man, that tutorial just keeps coming back to haunt you in your face or something (even after all these years) XD

I think the random-middle-aged-fat-man-photoshopped-his-face-onto-my-cosplay-picture-and-posting-it-as-himself still beats all. Also beats everything else in gross factor. DX

You should stick around my LJ more. This sort of retard stuff always pops up once in a while. XD

It's not funny looking at all until someone tells you the face was shopped on. He did a pretty good job...except he used the body/costume of a 21 yr old girl wearing a lot of padding...and he has a double chin...

I can't hear a damn thing the girl is saying in that video, but I went to defend you anyway because that's just obnoxious. And I enjoy being a dick on the internet. So, win-win.

"That's All Folks!! Please message me if you want me to do another tutorial! Sorry folks about this but people are acting like fags on comments and rating and being mean to me so i shall disable it. To all the people who mock this i will block you and report you for harrassing me about this. Sorry again to all those nice people who like my tutorial."

Apparently people are harassing her... she apparently doesn't understand the concept of being called out on her bullshit. "Want me to do another tutorial." Honey, you haven't done a tutorial in the first place, you're just practicing the art of reading badly to children. Also, if she's going to provide "credit" by linking back to the original tutorial (because she has to "help her out", pfft) the least she could do would use a link that actually goes somewhere! I call shenanigans!

Agreed. There is an option to report a video for copyright infringement, and I think Amy should pursue it. Or at least harass the shit out of this girl.

Why did they record it in mono? It only comes out of one speaker LOL
It freaked me out & I thought my headphones were broken for a minute.

LOL it's soooo hilarious. The first 1/3 is just a waste of time. I would much rather browse a link, then hear someone who talks sooooo slow I want to bang my head against the wall.

LOL...exactly. I think most people would. Because then they can follow at their own pace instead of having to try and rewind a video trying to see what they missed or didn't hear. Not to mention, from what I saw, she's trying to give advice on what Amy meant...despite not actually have attempted it herself yet. Waiting for "mommy" to go out and find/buy the materials (based on what I read in a comment or somewhere on there).

Complete BS!

It's not like she was reading it word for word either! It sounded more like she was skimming something out loud that she was reading for the first time, so she wasn't even covering everything. I gave up around the part where she mumbled something about soup cans (obviously not understanding the humour Amy put into her tutorial). If you're going to do a video tutorial, SHOW PEOPLE MORE THAN JUST TEXT TOO TINY TO READ!!! SHOW them how to do it. SHOW people your own personal techniques that might not be easy to explain with text. Utilize the medium fully!

I wanted to headdesk when she started reading out the "Don't post without my permission" part. Ahem, when did she ask for said permission? Child certainly doesn't understand what that means in the slightest.

Also, not interested in watching her browsing the internet. =/

YES! A tutorial uses other means to get the message across. Not just letting people watch you read what's on a screen that just so happens to have photos on it! TOTAL FAIL!
