This is something I am battling with lately too. I used to love writing letters, mail, entries, all of it. Now it has become an unpleasant chore and I mourn the joy it used to give me :(

It’s totally possible, and part of the reason social media has thrived (especially Facebook and Messenger). I find it much easier to send out blast messages to the world or to groups of friends. Most of my friends operate the same way. Email has become the formal communication method for official correspondence and bills. I only communicate with a few friends and family via email, and that happens less and less all the time.

This may or may not help you, but when I definitely owe someone an email or a letter, I set a timer for a certain amount of time (half an hour, usually) and I just write and write and write for that amount of time, and when the time is up, I can choose to just send the email, typos be damned, or I can save it to proofread and revise later, during another short session. Setting a time limit helps motivate me, because I know I can stop soon.

This is a good tip, thank you. I tried it this morning before work when i had a 30 minute gap, and managed to send one WhatsApp and one LinkedIn message, which made me feel good. Perhaps having a time box like that forces me to just get it done.

Would you be receptive to any of them just calling you?

Absolutely the hell not. My phone is permanently on silent and the only time i ever answer is if i am expecting a delivery or if i am trying to meet someone in person who doesn't know how to use a map to find the meeting spot. For a while i even had the phone app disabled on my phone, but then one day i needed to use it for calling a plumber or something and it took me ages to find out how to get it back so now it's buried somewhere at the bottom of the all apps list in case of emergency.

I have one friend that i occasionally Skype call with, but i don't think i've talked to anyone else in years. I might have had a video call with dad like 5 years ago or something. Phone calls and video chats mostly remind me of work.
