I love Miami Beach. It is exactly like my dream of what it should be. It is seedy. Dirty. Glitzy. Glamorous. Fake. Gritty. It feels like a future city. But also with a legacy that hasn't been steamrolled to make way for new development

I enjoyed your take on Miami. Damn, nightclub beer is expensive in the USA!

I've been flying through Miami every two or three years to reach my dad's family in the Cayman Islands since I was too young to remember, but it wasn't until I was thirty three that I thought i'd stop by the city itself. Or mostly at a really cool hostel south of Miami near the Everglades National Park, where I went canoeing and saw far more alligators than I could count! I spent one day in the city proper, where I got sunburnt on the beach.

Yeah, it's absurdly expensive. I think part of the problem is that clubs here really earn their money on alcohol sales and bottle service. But, then, they also have high cover charge as well. I don't think it should cost that much to maintain a club - even with a top-notch sound system - but perhaps it's more that it's a risky endeavour, like if you bring a big DJ in from overseas and then nobody shows, that's a decent chunk of money down the drain.

It sounds like you had a pretty complete Miami experience!
