I'll save my Texas food post for my next wifi stop, in the hope that this morning i will be able to get one more snack ahead of crossing into Louisiana. Instead, here is a Texas scenery post.
I remember! It was quite a surprise to me. I expected bad roads in "poor" states like Louisiana and Mississippi, but Texas is supposed to be rich and prides themselves on their roads.
Once we were driving to my in-laws in PA, and the GPS gave us a route that went along a road like that, and my husband drove on it, despite seeing that it was a one-lane mudpit! By some miracle we didn't get stranded, but shit. I wasn't happy about it.
For some dumb reason i thought "i'm on a bike, i can just cycle through this", but... i could not. I sunk, then i didn't get stable quick enough, and the whole bike fell over. I wasn't muddy, but the whole left side of my bike was. And the mud here is soooo difficult to get off, even after it's dry. It's not like the sandy mud in the prairies where once it's dry you just pat it a few times and it blows away in the wind.
With cars i remember a few times we went for family camping trips and got stuck, then having to find some wood or large stones to put under the wheels to try get traction again. It's not fun.

Interesting! I have not spent much (hardly any) time in Texas so it is fun to see what some places look like.
