You're coming from the wrong direction. US/Mexico border is wide open.

Theoretically i could cross the border in the backcountry here too, it's how some hobos and people with a felony conviction go back and forth. Probably the main difference between me and people coming over the southern border is if i end up caught by the authorities, i won't qualify for an asylum hearing, they'll just boot me back to Canada.

Hypothetically, what would it cost for you to fly yourself and your bicycle from the nearest airport to the city of your choice in the United States? Or alternately, to ship your bicycle and fly just yourself and your essentials? It is frustrating that the border is closed, but this is one of those situations where having some money to throw at a problem is a good thing.

That actually seems like a sound idea.

Yeah, i am thinking of doing that if the weather gets too cold. My point of no return is Calgary. I think that only a few cities are doing flights in and out of the US at the moment, due to the extra restrictions, and i think Calgary is the last one before Toronto. I think i could go Calgary to Houston direct, so that might be an option. I don't really want to fly west, that would be the wrong direction! But who knows, perhaps September 21 they will open. People have been pretty pissed about the past two extensions, so maybe that annoyance will filter up to whoever is making the decisions.

Damn dirty Canadians with their.... public apologies for the atrocious mass murder of indigenous children and socialist reforms! Maybe if they expand the tar sands we can finally work together to end the world covid or... Cuba... or something?

That's so silly to me. I'm sorry.
