I'm glad you are feeling better, whatever the reason. If you are right and you did have a UTI this whole time, or one that would recede and flair again, never quite going away, you should certainly notice a difference in how you feel now! Yikes!!!!
Hooray for real antibiotics! It may take a while to kick the UTI completely, but you are definitely going to feel even better when it's gone.
But that recovery time: Just for comparison, I drink at least a drink or two almost every day, and I am not even aware of any recovery time, let alone am I miserable later because of a few drinks. I am definitely older than you. Of course everyone's body is different, but still.
I think for me it's more the contrast between waking up on a morning with no drinks the night before versus even just one drink the night before. It's not really a hangover, it's just a mild bit of seediness or minor grumpiness. Like, it's not enough to be a bother, but it's definitely there. It's especially noticeable if i don't drink at all for a week or two, and every day feels pretty bright and clear in the mornings, then just one beer, the next morning it's a bit muddy. It's not bad, it's just suboptimal. It's kind of like the reverse of what happens when i drink coffee every day, and then one day i miss my coffee, and the whole world seems a little dimmer

Hurray on meds. I have a lot of doc appointments lined up for the us. I am pretty sure I have a low-grade untreated ear infection that needs attention. The shit insurance I have here makes it impossible to get it properly treated. Frustrating.
A Brit coworker of mine shared a meme that said basically
European out of office responder : I am going camping for the entire summer, I will be unavailable. Email me in September.
US out of office responder: I am stepping away from my desk for 2 hours to get kidney surgery. I will be available on my cell.
Fuck capitalism. Especially late stage, fully-extractive, American capitalism.
I've heard some stories from patients about not going to the hospital. Most of the patients said well I should have come sooner but didn't want to because of COVID. Now this was more during right around the breakout. So heard this more around May, June 2020. Had one pt whole fell in April and didn't come to the hospital till June. Pt had a broken hip but was scazred of COVID so waited. I did hear a lot of people die of heart attacks and strokes because they didn't come to the hospital. I'm sure a lot of preventable medical issues caused people to die that year. Granted even now people are still avoiding the hospital but they are coming more now.
I'm still stunned by what happened in that school. I mean, you know that that sort of thing happened (happens?) but when it comes out, it is still devastating.
Good to hear you finally got treatment, but also that the vitamins are helping, B12 deficiency is scary, long term it can cause permanent nerve damage, but it sounds like yours was picked up before that kicked off. (A chum of mine in Japan had the tingling and numbness in the extremities, and it kept being missed by the doctors who were befuddled by it... maybe veganism was a concept they could not get their head round!)
Arg the booze, I like drinking booze, I'd like to drink more, but I drink it so rarely now, partly because it is wildly expensive here, but also because the after effects are a lottery. Will I wake up fine? Or was I a smidge too close to a certain time of the month and will now have a 3 day migraine? GAH!
Yeah, i think the thing with the residential schools is that it was pretty well-established that many, many children died there. Government officials already knew about it in the early 20th century, they wrote reports about how native kids were malnourished, sick and dying at much greater rates than non-native kids, but... nothing much changed. The system just kept on not giving a shit, even though individuals spoke up about it. There was an epic report released a few years back which documented the injustices (at least from the records that could be found) and made recommendations about how the government and the churches could help indigenous people and Canadians in general to heal... And still nothing much happened. It must be incredibly frustrating for survivors and their families

Shit! I didn't know you had tingling too. I think (I am no expert) but I read that the body stores a surplus of B vitamins, so vegans are usually fine for the first few years as they run off their stores. So if you can get your stores topped up again, it would not be a disaster if you had episodes of not taking supplements (such as while travelling) so long as you keep periodically replenishing your store. However, it is risky... something to keep an eye out for.
Oh, i forgot to reply to this! Yeah, i suspect this was a build-up over the years. I've only been "mostly vegan" for about 5 years (before that i was "mostly vegetarian"). The "mostly" is because i am not fussy when i eat out - i will make a best effort to find something vegan, i'm not going to get wanky over something cooked in lard or stock, and sometimes if the local speciality is meat then i'll try it anyway because i am still food-curious. I always figured that would give me just enough nutrients to keep my levels okay. But since the pandemic i have stopped eating out, so i am 100% vegan, because i don't buy any animal products for home cooking. That might've tipped me over the edge. Now that i know to pay attention to it, i figure i will keep on chomping the tablets. It might be less of a problem when i'm out on the road again, since anyway it is pretty difficult to find 100% vegan food at restaurants.
