I'm feeling a bit better now. The jet lag was really taking a toll those first few days.

You really did turn your day into night. It's going to take almost the whole quarantine period until things feel somewhat more normal to you. Just give it time.

I'm starting to get there now. This was really rough. I think i underestimated how miserable jet lag would be when you can't even go outside.

I don't know about Canada, but in the states one of your best bets if you don't want to do the hostel thing is to find a motel in the ghetto part of town. Preferably one with weekly rates. I bet they don't have websites haha. We usually find them on the road. Sure you might run into a sex worker or a crack dealer, but I like them simply because they have no frills. It's a bed, and a shower... though I always, always check the beds first to make sure there's no bugs. If they have bugs, don't even unpack your bags, and get out. They hide in the crease of the mattress on the edges. Just pull up the sheets, and inspect them. I've actually only ever found them once.

Haha, there's my ghetto motel 101.

Yeah, i am thinking to find a lot of these places i am going to need a car, though. And then adding up the cost of a rental car, it starts to get pricey anyway. I'm still trying to figure out a plan for all this. I don't want to buy an internal combustion vehicle, but new EVs are still pretty expensive and there aren't really any long range second-hand options. Ugh, i dunno.

Sit tight for a few days. I hardly remember the first week after my 11-hour and 8-hour moves, because that business is absolutely exhausting. They told us to expect one day of adjustment for each time zone you skip over.

It's getting better now. I've done some big moves like this before (Australia to North America, North America to Europe), but for some reason this one is particularly rough. I think part of the problem is not being able to go outside, so i can't surround myself with people leading a "normal life" to help adjust my brain into the new rhythm.

Yeah, you have to get through quarantine, where you are at is temporary. Are there other parts of town that interest you? What do you want to go and see when you can?

It is a big change. Give yourself room and time for a good night's sleep.

This is a good question.

Honestly, the majority of BC doesn't interest me at all. I find "old growth forests" terrifying, i feel uncomfortable in places where you are forced to depend on private vehicles to get in or out of, i don't like mountains blocking out the sun...

Vancouver itself is a very beautiful city and last time i was here i had a great time, but it's far too expensive to live for an extended period unless you are also working here.

There is a small corner of the province that appeals to me, and it's the high desert areas around Kamloops and Kelowna. They have cactuses and sagebrush, the mountains aren't as looming, there are no trees, it's sunny... I've never been there but i think it's the kind of place i would feel comfortable to chill for a while. I think that's where i am going to try to get to next, although i am still a bit worried about how car-dependent people are out there. We'll see.
