Well you surprise me. You live life in an extremely self-motivated style far from depressive behaviour. I suppose it makes sense though, dropping all incongruent behaviour and removing the constant stress of pretending. I’m reading a book by Mao’s personal doctor at the moment and he says that he kept seeing patients back in those days, even privileged senior party people like Mao’s wife, who were physically manifesting mental disorders simply because of the constant strain of having to conform to an impossible ideology. They were trapped in a system they could not escape and no nervous system could sustain it.
Modern industrial working life is pretty much totalitarian. Even nursing is an industrialised job in which we are measured for speed and volume. It is in no sense a natural existence with traditional skills that can be turned to one’s own advantage.
