Superman was flying above Gotham, eyes closed, listening for Batman. Granted, he wasn't really sure what Batman would sound like, considering they'd never met, but he had a feeling that if crime was being committed, the Batman would probably be nearby.

He wasn't sure what to think of Gotham's new caped protector, and he knew full well that the media could distort things, for good or ill. Heck, he was the media during his day job. But he hoped he'd be able to get a feel for the man when they actually met.

The air above Gotham was a haze of noise, but Superman recognized the tell-tale sound of a mugging taken place: two heartbeats, one of them elevated, one of them pounding, the shuffle of feet, the sound of the bullet scraping its way out of the gun. He flew towards it, the world blurring around him, and landed in an alley in time to feel the bullet bounce off his chest.

To his complete astonishment, Harvey Dent was still alive. It took him a few long moments to realize that the red which filled his line of sight was fabric, not blood.

"What..." He trailed off, confused and more than a little shaken.

"You'll be just fine, Mr. Dent," a firm voice assured him. Harvey gave what amounted to a mental shrug and watched with fascination while the caped figure in front of him stepped closer to the thug, who promptly fled the alley as quickly as his feet could carry him. Superman turned to face him with a low chuckle.

"You saved me," Harvey said simply. He stepped closer and extended his right hand, beaming at the stranger.

"I really can't thank you enough."

"Just doing my job, Mr. Dent," Superman said, shaking his hand with a smile. "Are you all right?"

Harvey nodded and grinned a little wider at him, shaking his hand for another moment before letting go and kneeling to pick up his dropped briefcase.

"I could go catch him and bring him back, if you'd like to talk to him?" Superman offered.

"It's all right. I don't actually have the time to be arraigning any would-be assassins right now. You can imagine how hectic things are for me back at the office. And, well, it doesn't really matter who sent him. Any one of the bosses is capable of this kind of thing, I'm afraid."

Harvey took a step back and gave Superman a quick once-over, taking in his perfect hair and colorful costume.

"I... wow. You're Superman. I've read so much about you. Why are you even here? This isn't your jurisdiction, so to speak. Not that I'm not incredibly overjoyed to see you..."

Harvey fidgeted, and his cheeks flushed slightly.

Get a hold of yourself, Dent, he mentally chided himself. It's only a superhero.
