I was a bit surprised to read that you felt that conservatives understand liberals better and that conservatives think that liberals are wrong but liberals think conservatives are evil. My own experience is that conservatives tend to condemn liberal policies in faith-based terms that judge liberals to be in opposition to God's will, which is equated with evil, and that they think liberals don't care about the state of society in general.
Not to say that some liberals don't also argue from a faith-based perspective and call conservatives evil, but my personal experience is more the other way around.

I believe you're way overthinking this. It doesn't have anything to do with religion. Substitute "bad" for "evil." Conservatives think liberals will fall for any damn fool idea, bless their hearts, and that's why they believe the most outrageous stuff. Liberals think conservatives believe what they do because they're mean and narrow minded and don't care if other people suffer.
