Just sped through all nine parts of this over the last forty-five minutes or so, and it is brilliant. The characters ring true despite the morbidity of the situation, and despite his very few, short appearances thus far, Morgan is completely filling the role of Evil Personified. I have honestly no idea where you are going to take this with only one part left to go, but I'll certainly be tuning in to find out!

Amazing chapter, I love the game of night cricket and the way you write Gene being so conflicted in his behaviour and thoughts about Tyler is brilliant.

I'm so glad you're continuing with this story, especially with the way it's going now that Sam knows what's happened. Seeing Gene struggle between keeping Sam at a distance and being protective of him is making for some compelling reading, and I love how it ended here with Sam's arrest and Gene whacking Morgan with the cricket bat just to make sure he would be with Sam, it's really quite a gallant gesture in a very Gene-like fashion :)

Lots of great imagery here, not just of Sam and Gene but of Gene and the Missus, loved the memories of night cricket especially. Hope you'll get the next chapter up soon!

Of course I have to continue it! I want to see what happens, too. LOL

I admit, I love the cricket bat's moment of glory, too. :) It came about in a late edit when I recalled Chekhov's rule about the gun over the fireplace* and realized I was on my way to breaking that, so I'd best rectify matters. LOL

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on Gene. It's just what I was going for.

*If there is a gun over the fireplace in act 1, it must go off by the end of act 2.

Oooo!! Missed this chapter and had to read it before the new update. This was excellent. The night cricket was really quite funny and a strangley typical Gene move - do anything to avoid discussing things. Wonderful and loved that Gene got himself arrested too to protect Sam. Now on to the next!
