What if: Katniss had never learned that he loved her? had never learned to love him?

Sometimes his hands still shake. He presses his wrists together and whispers, to himself and no one else, "Not real."

When she kisses him she has closed eyes and a closed mouth (and maybe even a closed heart) and Peeta doesn't let himself overthink it, just closes his eyes and kisses her back.
