Update on my life

Everything is going well in my neck of the woods. The biggest event/change is that I've began taking downhill skiing lessons. Today I went on my own to the beginner hill in Anchorage called Hilltop. A rather boring hill according to just about everyone, but it's perfect for me, since I'm still working on turns, controlling my speed, and stopping. ( Read more... )

Oh, that's really cool about learning to ski! :D I've lived in Alaska all my life and never have set foot on a pair of skis, though every winter I tell myself this is going to be the winter I learn how. (Cross-country, though, not downhill - I'm a giant chicken!) I'm glad you're having fun with it!

Cross country sounds like fun too. :) I'm just learning downhill so I can go to ski resorts with my husband. :) And I always loved speed type sports. That's part of why I loved rollerblading down hills and playing roller hockey and water skiing. Mostly it's been a money issue/school eating up all my time for as to why I haven't taken lessons before this. But now that I have a job that I'm reasonably sure I'll have next year as well it makes it a bit easier for me to be willing to splurge on myself.

I haven't skied since I was 12, and I live in Texas so it's not going to happen anytime soon. ::is envious:: I think it's terrific that you're taking lessons and moving at your own pace. :D

Yeah, I never learned either because Texas is not exactly known for it's ski hills. :) I figured better late than never. Plus it's winter a long time in Anchorage.

We have the same skis! (Although it looks like it was a warm day?) hope you keep enjoying it!

It was sort of warm. Lately we've been having some rather off season weather this winter. Yesterday it rained and the forecaster's predict even more rain. Normally it should be snow not rain.

Yay for skiing! And please tell me (mommy voice) that you are or will be wearing a helmet? Because your noggin is very important!

Once you really get the hang of skiing, and it is great to hear that you're practicing your turns and stops, I hope you find the zen of it. To go down a great run and take smooth turns and feel in tune with your skis and the hill/mountain is exhilarating and soothing.

I planned to buy a helmet once I went beyond the green slopes. I also don't fancy scrambling my brains when I fall down. :)

I enjoy the turns and feel of having control. Not too big a fan of going too fast. I like fast but only to a point..
