Under Construction

Warning:  More website ranting ahead...

So, because I know everyone is just dying to know what I think about this subject, here's what I think about "under construction" pages on websites.

They.  Are.  Stupid.

If the page is under construction, just don't add it to the navigation.  Work on it until it is no longer under construction.  Complete the ( Read more... )

I'd like to speak to management please.

I need to protest the plethora of myspace spam defacing my lj. I do believe the perpetrator of said atrocity should be arrested. And detoxed.

I am able to see this one from both sides. For the web designer, it is easier to create the main page, with all the links, first. Then they go back and create the linked pages as they can. They go ahead and put in the "under construction" page as a place holder, and so you don't get a broken link page. It saves them extra time and potential errors. But there is absolutely no excuse for the obnoxiousness!

However, for the rest of us, it just leads to the frustration of a wasted button press, wait time, and (in the case of the obnoxious signs) a headache.

Be angry at the obnoxious sign, not at the "under construction". There's a very busy web designer behind each one. At least you don't go away thinking the link was broken.

My simple reply to your reply (which I can't seem to see to reply to) is; yes but it's not your "day job". This is not the thing you do every day to earn a living. For those who do, I'm sure this way takes less time. Certainly your way is more considerate, but cut the poor "code monkeys" a little slack. It's one thing to do dedicated work on one site, and keep all the links in your head, but it's entirely another to do that for multiples at a time, especially if all the information is not immediately available to said "code monkey".
