My pops has to stay and man the hospital/clinic at an Air Force Base in Mississippi. My mom wanted to stay, but he wasn't trying to hear that shit.
It's going to be interesting to see how the presidential hopefuls react and respond to this. We already know what hardworking, trustworthy and thoughtful contribution Bush is going to make due to his stellar performance with Katrina... oh, wait...

True story.
While in the service I had been in Biloxi, Mississippi training for Tech Control at KAFB when Ivan came. I remember they removed furniture from the windows, boarded what they could and all that jazz. The base went apeshit...but the rest of Biloxi/Gulfport went on as if nothing had happened. A group of friends and I went to a casino called Treasure Bay in the design of a pirate boat sitting directly on the water. We were at a poker table and I commented on how there seemed to be a shit ton of people out and about for us having been in a hurricane. The dealer replied "We get them all the time. People hype up the alerts and spaz, but the most we get are a few broken windows and tossed trees. Not a goddamn thing happened the year before this, not a goddamn thing will happen this year, and not a goddamn thing will happen a year after this one."
