Tony spent the night on Rhodey's couch, with the excuse that he was too trashed to drive. It wasn't exactly an excuse, since between them he and Rhodey had nearly finished off a bottle of Armadale, but Pepper was back at the house, and he figured a little distance might not be a bad thing.

It took me a reread or two to get the impact of that last line, that last word, and oh is it that perfect kick in the gut.

I really appreciate it. weird spacing errors and letters (and even words!)dropping out in between the google doc and LJ. As well as normal typos. I'll probably try to correct tomorrow, as I'm tuckered out.

Never having seen "Doll House," I'm not sure I get all of it. Is the *real* Pepper just *gone*?

She's not necessarily gone. On Dollhouse they have the ability to sort of record a person's entire mind/personality/memory and basically use it like software. It can be wiped away, replaced, they can make one up from scratch and install it in a person.

So my intent is at the end you basically have Pepper from just after Tony's abduction. With no memory of anything that happened after that.
