So, I don't know anything about the characters (yeah, what else is new) but I liked the first new Batgirl. I'm gonna have to add it to my list of comics I actually purchase. It felt a little like if Buffy became Batgirl instead of the slayer. Nice contrast to Batwoman, though. Apparently, I'm turning into a DC reader. Huh.

comics are crack

Cass = made of hysterical win. At least until the whole weird 52 weeks thing went and did bad things. That was an 'edgy' experiment that didn't work for her. Still, everything in No Man's Land is my favorite DC experience to date.

I have real awkward issues with Batwoman (that are probably unjustified) because it makes me ANGRY that they had to bring in a whole new female character to bring attention to the women of Gotham when the women of Gotham had been asskicking for a long time and deserved more stories of their OWN. And I love new female characters, but BW felt more like a gimmick when introduced and I've been so burned by comics fandom that I just can't bring myself to dive in and/or care. Ah, burn-out.

That being said, the Scott/Puckett issues of Batgirl are AWESOMECAKES. I'm also rather fond of that era's Robin books, although I'm a bit alone there. To me, Robin was always the one fighting whack-ass, weird bad guys and having fun adventures, and (the name escapes me) the writer during that time NAILED my mental ( ... )

I can understand that. Coming with absolutely no knowledge at all, I like Batwoman. It may just be my hard on for the art, though, it's difficult to tell at this point.

I now have to read a bunch more.

oh, DCU! I've been seeing a lot of people's reactions to the new Batgirl and it's been the most effective temptation to return to comics that I've felt in a while. I still don't know if I'm going to give in, though - I'm sure DC Comics still retains the ability to break my heart.

...okay, wow, that was way more melodramatic than I meant it to be. Basically: oh comics, I wish I knew how to quit you! &tc, &tc.

No, not melodramatic, in this seems to be the feeling of everyone I talk to about comics.
