Today is a good day for capitalism.

• Short-sighted ridiculously expensive ill-thought bailout plan fails
  
• Citi buys Wachovia
  
• Bain and H&F are purchasing Lehman assets
  
• SpaceX does privately funded orbital flight (yesterday)

I'm sure they'll do plenty to disillusion me later, but, as with capitalism, one has to take both the ups and the downs.

I'm especially happy about SpaceX, but that's the long term thinker in me. I am also thrilled about the failure of the bailout plan, even if it means I just lost a lot of money in stocks. I'd rather pay now than pay later.

You know, I'm the biggest tax-and-spend liberal this side of Pava, but I'm also glad it failed. There's gotta be a better way than throwing $700 billion at the problem.
