First and second "guesses" refer to the phone offering you a classification type. Most of them have a sort of pulldown or scrollable menu with first and second (etc) options. Those are basically the people building the interface taking a guess at what type of number you're entering. Please answer for your personal usage, not how you think others ( Read more... )

I don't believe in calling people about work... but I could see if you use your phone for business a lot a work number would be very important as a second one. I think ideally it would be one of those things you could customize.. or that your phone could be smart about based on the number of each type of number you have stored. That could be kinda sexxy.

I don't have a mobile, so my second number is always work. My response to the poll doesn't match my own phone numbers, though, most of my friends use mobiles even instead of their home line.

Yeah, either one of those would be hands down superior to, well, all the phone interfaces I've seen.

I have some work numbers not because I call people about work, but because I sometimes need to contact them during the day about plans for the evening, or some such. It's a backup. It's a tossup whether I have more of those than home numbers though.

I have work numbers for my boss and the department secretary, so I can call in sick if need be. And I *should* have a number for the building security office (we need to tell them when we run certain kinds of reactions overnight so they can check on it and make sure it's not gonna burn the place down) because several times I've informed them of a reaction, changed my mind and stopped it, and forgotten to let them know.

this seems like a case where a little context would go a long ways. at the very least, if i already have a mobile number for the person, it should guess Work. I generally don't enter "home" numbers any more ( ... )
