Gokarna To Honnavara trek

Mar 09, 2007 12:51

We met around 8:45 at the Kempegowda bus stand (KBS). Except manja, everybody else was a stranger to me. It would turn out that we would get to know each other very well during the course of an exciting and adventurous trek. The group included ten people in total: Myself, Manja, Amin, Pramod, Nishant, Ayush, Harit, Mahadev, Manish and Nihit ( Read more... )

This is a very well written account, the closest one can get to describing wonderfully,an experience of this kind. I'm sure you must feel the nostalgia of a faraway civilisation that exists in those beaches, whilst you are back to your own :), the difference in the two being the close bond with Mother Nature in the former and the lack of it in the latter and, oh boy! that does make a huge difference, ain't it ?

Thanks for this lovely write-up Amogha,

Manja picked up the stick somewhere on the way, and wanted to
show some of his skills with it. His idea was to light
both ends of the stick with fire and show some tricks during
our night stay on one of the beaches.

The poor guy was never able to show us anything, since all
the kerosene we took was used for lighting the fire, leaving
nothing to light his stick!

I have been to Gokarna many times before, when my uncle was an engineer in
the Gersoppa project. But I was small then.

Yes, the poojaris there force people into offering poojas. Thats bad.
We decided to go since we had travelled so far. Not going into the
temple would not have made sense...

We could have covered lesser beaches per day...but that meant carrying
more ration for our stay. We decided on making our backpacks as
light as possible. And water was always the problem..we had to keep
moving
