He did stay longer than most, and when he did play he still had it, I'll forever love his forehand. Also? He had something that many won't, ever, in their best days: class. He was a gentleman of tennis, besides his game he was... well, is... well, you know, I don't have to tell you anything ;___; I saw him live too, and on clay, and I'll treasure my memories.
I really hope he keeps close to the sport too, as consultant or something around Davis Cup, yes, oh I wish it. *HUGS*
It feels so weird. I was sad when Safin retired, but for how big he was to the sport it doesn't compare to how sad Carlos' retirement has made me. I've been expecting it, but it doesn't lessen the blow *hugs*

I'm sad I never saw him on clay. I barely even saw any of his matches on clay! Get crappy coverage during the clay court season. :(
