There's been a huge push for years trying to revitalize the downtown against the Walmarts of the world. Once you're there, it's beautiful and right on the water. The website hardly does it justice.
It's about, what, 21,000 or so people now? So to me, growing up, it was "the city" we went to a few times a year, but to most of the population of Toronto, it's "that little town near our cottage where we can buy groceries".
It is a very pretty downtown. Especially at Christmas, if you're like me and think too many Christmas lights is impossible.
Actually, I have a postcard of the grain elevator on my wall here, because I thought it was hilarious. No one here finds it hilarious, because they look at it and assume Owen Sound is this huge touristy place in Ontario with a famous grain elevator. This, of course, makes it even more hilarious to me.
