Pound's rules are pretty much still in force, even though we've supposedly moved into a "post" Modern age and Pound is a hallmark of Modernism. But then, a poet studying in 1912 would have had to have lived down the precepts of the Romantics.

I agree with his felt sense of how to blunt an image with an abstraction, but I'll be damned if I don't find myself coming back to them again and again.

I'm beginning to think this haunting has a reason.

Last, Pound violates all these rules in the Cantos. To his credit, he even in 1912 saw the need to reject dogmatism in poetry.
