whoa, it's been almost a month w/o a new entry. besides the fact that "joyce" is a pretty tough act to follow, i've been hella busy lately

Oh Amluv, I Love your blog. :-) I won't jump on your couch though. ;-)
Alien came first in 1979. Blade Runner was made in 1982, and while it has 80's earmarks, its still a great watch.
Gladiator I have pros and cons with. Certain aspects of logic fail the plot. It's like Maximus must be dumb so that certain events can happen as opposed to having a *real* reason for him being a gladiator. One of those movies where slavery is romanticized, noble, and suffering. Can you see my disdain... lmao!
It is hot. In the southeast, I saw the Human Torch hail a cab. :-(

dude, i was rooting for the tiger...because then i would at least know that the movie would have been over...
and it's just a really bad blender movie...a huge chunk of it is a rehashing of "sparticus" but that was kubrick and kubrick knows how to bring out the humanity in a film...this was just fuckin' bullshit..there isn't a real reason for him to anything other than to be badass...then the thing w/ joacquin phoenix and the incest and it was just really really bad, because it was derivative of the really really really, really bad "caligula"...i didn't understand the motivation for any of the characters aside from them conforming to some weird cartoonish cliches...it was the ultimate eye enema...

Hadn't seen it in a while. When it was first released people swore by it. I've seen it a few times. Many of the plot aspects still bother me when I think about them.
I love your critical eye for details. It makes your arguments concise. *wonders if you could possibly write some art critiques for local papers/magazines*
"Ultimate eye enema!" :-( I guess that makes it an epic fail in so many ways.

i don't know when it happened, but at some point i just want able to just "watch" a movie or tv...i found myself scrutinizing every aspect i could so i could make sense of it...or if there was something that just stood out, i needed to know more about it...and i would love a gig that would allow me to do that.
I guess that makes it an epic fail in so many ways.
I wrote a paper on Blade Runner and Metropolis in the winter quarter. I watched the entire movie. It was so good. I did learn that there are a few versions of the film. The theatrical released version is the least liked. It has a tacked on ending, because test audiences wanted a happier ending. Also there was some narration that really grates the ears.
There is a directors cut that is better. It's been re-released with bonus material. I wanted my own copy of the movie, but it can wait.
Wilson! WIL-SON!

I went through a long period of really fucking hating Tom Hanks and how he became the world's leading expert on whatever WW that movie was based on. You know the one, "The Needs of the One Outweigh the Needs of the Many [Or the Few])" where a whole boatload of soldiers had to die for one momma's boy. But I digress. I have since transferred my hatred to others who are more deserving, such as Tyra Banks, the Kardashians, the Hogans, and that whole passel of fuckwit cunts who don't deserve a dime they have in their cotton-lined crotches. Again, digressing.
I really hate so many, many movies that I can't even list them all. I prefer, instead, to hate on those who need hatin'--oh! I know! Pretty Woman. And Catwoman. And Man Bites Dog. And The Big Lebowski. And others but I'm too wired on cheap sparkly to think in a most coherent fashion.

visually, GWtW is stunning, even i'm not immune to that...but i can't get past the most egregious stuff that makes up it's content...
i hate the cliche of
happy fools... (gump)
longing for the glory days when *everyone* knew their "place" (GWtW)...
and i hate pretentious pieces of bullshit dressed up as culturally relevant, envelope pushing, social commentary (crash/ LiT)
and gladiator is just an abomination of filmmaking...
i like what i like...which is basically what it comes down to...and i hate what i hate and i can back it up...that's just the way i roll ;)
