Names for cats, books and Japanese song for Gwendal

I’ve been working on my novel today. There’s one thing that sometimes gives me problems: Thinking of names for characters. (Sometimes it’s very easy, but… it can be hard.) In this case it’s not even really a character, but a cat. I have realized that if there is a cat, she definitely needs a name. A while ago, I came across a name and I thought: “ ( Read more... )

I have no pets. Alas. I always think of Minerva as a name for a cat -- probably because of Harry Potter.

But I wonder about some of these characters who seem like really nice guys. I’m afraid any of them can turn out to be bad guys… especially that Brayden guy, because he likes everything that Sydney likes and how can that not be too good to be true??

I thought Brayden was a bit boring actually, when I first read, which disappointed me because I was so prepared to love him and ship Brayden/Sydney. He seemed like a female version of Sydney who didn't know when to stop.

I have two cats, and today I'll get a dog - for a week only. My cousin is going away and needs a "babysitter". He's sweet but one of those hairless dogs...

You're right, Minerva is a good name for a cat! Maybe I'll take that. :)

I was amused, because I thought that conversation about Latin was borderline absurd. At the same time I know how fun it can be to meet someone who shares all your likes and interests. Now when I have read more (I put the book down after kiss, flowers and agreeing to a third date) I find him boring, too. It's obvious that Sydney is not at all attracted to him and I can understand her. It would be more interesting if he was more... um, what? I don't know, but you're right, he is a bit boring.

Yup. I think Richelle Mead's a bit hit-and-miss with Sydney's conversations. Half the time they're LOOK HOW SMART SYDNEY IS pushed into our faces, but there are times when Sydney genuinely comes across as the smart, bookish person she is -- usually when she's got an opinion and talks passionately about it, that works.

Maybe if Brayden was a bit more lively, I think. He doesn't have enough depth or personal life outside of being a plot device for Sydney. Though I have seem a few theories going around... which I'll keep to myself until after you've finished the book.

Ah, that's a good reason to finish the book quickly! :) I love it, but I'm actually only reading one chapter or two before I go to sleep... I'll tell you when I've finished it and then we'll talk about the theories. :)
