I agree, though. Emotions can become so muddled up, and humans have this ability to wildly exaggerate or fear things that really aren't such a big deal after all. It can make life so stressful. Not to mention how we can be such unreliable narrators, to ourselves and to everyone else.
The worst part is, when you're isolated, and there's no one around to hold up a mirror, to get you to see the big picture. And isolation isn't always geographical, like you said: it can be emotional, because of pride, too.
Ah, yes, that was a bit cryptic, wasn't it! It's a fictional character, one I spent a big part of last year thinking and writing about.
Yes, many things can create isolation. And you don't always make the best desicions when you're alone with your own thoughts, like this guy was for most of his life.
