Louise always knew a lot more than anyone ever gave her credit for, and Chanel’s so called secret was one of those things.
If Madame knew, then surely Chanel would be fired immediately; not because of what she did but because of with whom she did it.
Louise had seen them one night when she passed Chanel’s window; the blinds were not closed properly as they should have been if secrecy really was that important.
A deck of cards was spread out on the table, some cards were on the bed - had they been playing strip poker? They were not playing when Louise watched them.
From her hidden place in the darkness in the garden, Louise saw how Madame’s elegant sister-in-law, that infamous Pierrette banned from the house ever since Madame set foot in it, clasped her hands around Chanel’s linen sheet, her face flushed and she seemed to utter words of ecstasy that didn’t reach through the window glass, as Chanel’s head was buried between her wide-spread legs.
Who would have thought that the old housekeeper had it in her, Louise mused as she walked away from the scene.
She wasn’t going to use her new information; she saw nothing to gain from using it. Louise wasn’t family; she was unimportant, an outsider; just a maid.
As such, she had a lot of information, to be used when the time was right, and not one moment sooner. She was a lot smarter than anyone ever gave her credit for.
