Scully, who didn’t go out often and didn’t want to become too much of a ‘regular’ anywhere, was not the only one who frequented many different places.
“I’ve seen you before”, said a young woman with a glass in her hand.
It wasn’t her first drink, Scully could tell.
“I’m Remy. I kind of hate this place… maybe that’s why I like it so much.”
“Mhm?” Scully said. The girl was pretty; long brown hair and big eyes.
“You don’t talk much, huh?” Remy tilted her head to one side and looked at Scully as if to determine a diagnosis. “I can tell we’re two of a kind. You don’t like chit-chat. You’re just here to get laid.”
“And so are you?”
“Yeah”, Remy nodded and looked deeply into her glass of beer.

Scully never saw Remy in daylight. They didn’t ‘date’. But sometimes, they exchanged words and a little warmth.
Scully knew why. They were both workaholics. They didn’t want anything solid - Scully because she felt that her life was too unpredictable to drag someone else into it - she never knew when Mulder was going to drag her along on something fatally weird - and Remy because she knew for a fact that she was dying. She was vulnerable, but put up a hard shell. Just like Mulder disappeared into obsessions; with him, there was always that quest.
Why is it, Scully thought, that the people I care about the most are the most impossible ones to be with?
