Angela Petrelli, curled up on the couch, reached her hand out and grabbed some popcorn from the bowl on the table, her eyes still on the TV.

She had watched that movie before, but she liked it.

In the corner of her eye, she saw Claire walking past the doorway. A few moments later, Claire came back, and as she entered the room, she said:

“Angela, what are you doing?”

“What does it look like I’m doing?”, Angela replied, irritated at the interruption.

“Well, I… I just thought, I don’t know…”, the girl stuttered.

Angela turned her head and looked at the girl, her granddaughter, dressed in a pink silk pyjamas, ready for bed.

“Does it surprise you to see that I am a human being?” she said, “don’t you think that I sometimes like to watch a movie and eat popcorn, just like everyone else? You don’t save the world or worry about it’s well-being every night, child.”

“I guess not”, Claire said, “may I join you?”

Angela nodded, and Claire sank down on the couch - not too far away, but still with a little distance between them, Angela noticed, as she handed over the popcorn bowl.

They chewed and watched in a quite comfortable silence for a while, and then the girl asked:

“Hey, isn’t that What’s-his-name, that guy from Gone With the Wind?”

“Yes”, Angela nodded, “it’s Clark Gable. He’s a safari guide, and he hunts wild animals and sells them to zoos. And those two women are both trying to hunt him.”

“I see”, said Claire, and after a while: “it looks like it’s the blonde who’s going to get him.”

“Maybe”, Angela replied, “you will see...”

Angela knew, of course, who was going to get him in the end, and she was glad that it wasn’t the blonde. Grace Kelly was pretty, but she didn’t have that fire, the spark in her eyes, that Ava Gardner had. There was something with that woman’s charisma that seemed to say: ‘You can hunt me, you can even catch me - but you can’t ever tame me!’

But if one could, Angela Petrelli thought, God; imagine to have been the one that woman looked at with awe and adoration!

When Angela as a teenager went to the movies with her friends, and all the others were pining for Richard Burton, Gregory Peck or any other man, she secretly wished to whisper dirty words in Ava Gardner’s ear; to have her trembling with desire, obeying her every command - she wanted to feel those soft lips; hot, strong and compliant!

The first girl Angela seduced had looked a bit like Ava Gardner.

The movie was over; Ava was happy in Clark’s arms, and Claire had eaten all the popcorn.

Angela looked at the girl and knew that her granddaughter couldn’t possibly guess what was going on in her mind.

“Hey Angela”, Claire said, “I don’t know why, but that safari man kind of reminded me of you, somehow.”
