I have committed fiction!

Apr 24, 2007 18:24

Completed, one piece of short story fantasy fiction. 3700 words. First draft.

*flops*

Tonight I print it out and will not look at it anymore. Tomorrow I crack knuckles and see if I can edit enough to call it a second draft.

Maybe I'll look for good places to submit. Anyone got a favorite?

Congrats!

I think you're wise to ask for personal recommendations first, but just for interest's sake (and as a backup plan) plug your story stats into Duotrope and see what comes up.

Thanks! I was totally planning on going to that site too *G*.

I just figured some people might know the short story landscape better than I.

Question: There's a few things on their form I don't understand.

Reprints?
Simsubs?
Multisubs?

What are those asking of me?

Reprints, I believe, is when something has already been published and the contract time has run out, not unlike a timed-out zine story. You can then resubmit it elsewhere as long as you let them know.

Simsubs is simultaneous submissions: that's when you send the same story various places at the same time.

Multisubs is multiple submissions, that's where you send one publisher more than one story at a time.

Try market_finder - there is a lot of specific information there about small presses and magazines and their submissions guidelines.

I always liked MZB's fantasy magazine. But I'm not sure if it died along with her or not. Then again, I don't think that's the question you asked.

That magazine has been 'in haitus' for 7 years. *G*

Doh.

Temporal mechanics are a silly thing.
