That has been one of my biggest pet peeves over the past couple of months. It seems like it's been happening more often lately for some reason.

It's not like most mods are that hard to seek out anyway. It's really a case of people being way to lazy to do a little bit of research themselves to see if something is allowed or not.

The other part that really bugs is that if anyone dares call them on it (even in a polite way) there are the responses of "OMG UR SO MEAN! Can't we all just get along." GAH! I can get along fine when everyone follows the rules!

Sorry. Such a sore spot with me right now.

I agree. I've been seeing it more often as well.

Though where I've been seeing it usually explains that. One of the monster community's that I belong to has very set rules about what can and can't be posted. And apparently, everyone isn't a scaredy-cat, eager-to-please nut like me and they don't read the userinfo pages. (actually, I've met people who don't even know that userinfo pages exist.

The problem recently though, is that the mods have been slipping up. I got banned for what turned out to be a half an hour after a mod mistook me for the person who froze a comment thread. This and a few other incidents have made people very cautious and I've seen posts that clearly follow the rules with "Please, don't shoot!"

But yeah, back to amireal, so many communities have little "If you don't know what's appropriate, e-mail us at confused@solost.com." You shouldn't be "giving" the mod permission to delete your post.

The other part that really bugs is that if anyone dares call them on it (even in a polite way) there are the responses of "OMG UR SO MEAN! Can't we all just get along."And this. My god. This recently happened to me in a comm (which I shall not mention because it is trying to keep a low profile) which recently went through a process of clarifying the rules in a series of posts to the comm. Which had closed membership. So you'd think everyone there would understand how to post, right? *laughs bitterly* And then I see some clueless poster has posted something wildly off-topic with the sentance 'I don't know if this is allowed here, but I don't know of any other comms I could post this too'. *headdesk* Go do some research, then! And I responded (politely! not once did I call them stupid!) saying that while the post was interesting this was not the comm for it ( ... )

Aaah. Cool. I figure even my 'non fandom' friends can totally grock this one sometimes. I know you're a part of a lot of comms.

At a figure skating community I frequent, whenever someone posts one specific thing we all hate (a Russian nickname some ignorant fans use for a skater), what shows up in their post instead is "I am a stupid Russian-wannabe twat". Which just cracks me up. They type "Zhenya", they get "I am a stupid..." Hours of fun.

So I espouse the idea of NOT deleting the post, but instead having that line automatically turn into something scathing and funny. I do like the "I was too stupid to read the comm FAQ" idea.

Hehe. That works for specific words/lines but you can't always get that specific. *grin*

But I likes.

Really? How cool! How'd they do it?

Or change the default 'no subject' lines to cute things like "Hi, I was too stupid to read the comm FAQs".

I LIKE it!
