It's odd the things that reach us.

Say goodbye to the telegram.You know, I've never had to send or receive one myself, but it still strikes me as a loss to our modern world. Everyone recognizes "telegramese", I've seen it used (and used it myself) on LJ within the last month alone. I guess it feels odd to be letting go of a part of history like that, like we've moved to a new era. I ( Read more... )

No, you're right. It does feel odd.

Even though I've never sent or received a telegram, they're just one of those things you always expect to be there.

I felt that way when Morse code was retired. I still sometimes hear Morse in my head, from back in the days of shortwave scanning and Ham radio operations. Was never licensed as a Ham myself, but was tech geek for a number of 'em, including Friends Camp, where I worked for several years.

Loosing telegrams... wow.
