Not to mention the time when the big-time actor wouldn't go on the final appearance of the con until he got paid RIGHT THEN. So you run out to your own bank and withdraw money from your own savings and pay him. Hoping to get it reimbursed by the actual treasurer of the con committee.

What, that doesn't happen anymore? Ah, neophyte fan-run cons, they were so much fun!

(We did get reimbursed. And we were running security for this con, so we were part of the, er, inner circle. And the after-con staff party with the actors was tres cool.)

You've pegged it perfectly, that's what it's like. And the payoff of being in the inner circle would be really cool, if your radio wasn't calling and your cell phone wasn't ringing, and you'd had some sleep, and time for personal grooming, and you weren't 5 minutes behind schedule and knowing full well that the 5 minutes was going to snowball until it met with the VIP's demands at the end of the day....
