Heh. I kinda hit the jackpot--my stepmom's brother works for a publishing company, or something like that, and he brought in a bunch of books. I can take as many as I want, but I don't have room for them all, nor time to look them all up on Amazon. I'd be much obliged if you could scan the list and jot down in a comment any you recommend. Thanks!

I've heard lots of good things about Sontag
Eats, Shoots & Leaves is simply wonderfu
I've never really been an Anne Rice fan, despite being a goth
Sylvia Plath is one of my fav poets
The Chrestomanci Chronicles are wonderful kids fantasy literature, if you enjoy that
HG Wells, obviously, is one of the great authors of all time
Eragon was a pretty fun read

hope that helps, those are the only ones that jump out immediately

When Your Kids Push Your Buttons, and What You Can Do About It, of course!

Nonfiction, perhaps?

My friends really rate Diana Wynne Jones. If it was me I think I'd take the Paul Auster New York Trilogy, which seems to have quite a good literary reputation.

Eats, Shoots, and Leaves is truly fun... and I don't know jack about The Girl Who Played Go, but if it's really about a girl playing go, then I'd be quite interested. Just read a little book called First Kyu borrowed from my go-playing boyfriend; that was really good. I think The Time Machine is supposed to be good also.

I actually have read The Time Machine, and still have my old copy, but the cover on this one is so pretty and new and...

And I'm just weak.

The Edgar Rice Burroughs cover is beautiful too.
