Also, I have seen Joss Whedon's Much Ado About Nothing, and although I have a few (tiny) quibbles, I APPROVE.
Definitely worth your while (if you can find it--only five theaters in the Chicagoland area, so...yeah) in theater or on DVD when it comes out.
Very good.

Much Ado is my favorite of the Shakespeare plays. I adore the Brannagh version, but I have to admit (and brag) that no production has ever topped the first time I saw Much Ado performed. It was back in '83, in London at the RSC. Sinead Cusack and Derek Jacobi were Beatrice and Benedict. OMG, Jacobi as Benedict was the finest. He played the role with all the physical comedy as well as the verbal. No one, but no one, has ever topped that in my mind. Not even Brannagh.

It's a lovely production. And I LOVE the Branagh production. And I'm crazy-jealous about not having seen the one you describe (back when I was 13 and hadn't yet read the play...). I think this is, like, the 10th production I've seen, and it's STRONG. Really great cast (although I have issue with Hero).

I wish I could have seen the recent London production of Much Ado - I think it was last fall - starring Katherine Tate and David Tennent. I keep hoping that maybe, just maybe, they'll release a DVD of the performance. (I have heard that it was recorded, so it could happen.)
