Size is relative

I've been joking for a while that Cook County (Illinois) was practically bigger than the entire state of Rhode Island.

Then, for a lark, I looked them up.

According to the data at Wikipedia, Cook County has 1,635 sq mi (4,235 km²) and a population of 5,285,107.

the population of the state in which I live is greater than the population of most countries, but definitely greater than the population of the country (either) from which the partner chick hails. by millions.

we also apparently have the sixth greatest gross national product in the world.

was it you who said Beijing was as large as some small countries last weekend? I cannot recall.

It's just totally spooky, you know? I mean, it helps me understand why there is this (to me, seeming) arrogance of, "But we should get WHAT WE WANT," when it's based on having such a large number of people behind that demand...but it's SPOOKY. It's just ONE county...

I just visited RI a few months back, and I made the same comment! I was like, there's no way this place is bigger than Chicago.
