minerva_fan wrote to my prompt, which was simply the exchange between the Doctor and Sarah at the end of "School Reunion": "Something to tell the grandchildren?" "I expect it'll be someone...else's grandchildren now."

Out of that, minerva_fan wove this amazing story, "Living History" about the power of storytelling and compassion and memory and knowledge and history ( Read more... )

I was checking back all afternoon to see your comment on it, because it's so amazing, and it's YOURS. I wish I could have seen you read it in person!

I couldn't read it till I got home, and since we had a department activity (overtime pay!!) till 4:30, we didn't get home till nearly 6 once I got myself and the kids gathered.

But, since no LJ access from school, had to wait till I got here, got food for the kids and me, and got the computer turned on.

And then...oh...what a joy. I'm SO LUCKY!

If you had ANY idea how I agonized over your prompt, up to and including asking for a different prompt. I tried three different starts and hated them all. And then I remembered this germ of a bunny from a few months back, and thought, ooh...that might work...I can tweak it.

I'm so glad you enjoyed it, and I thank you for the wonderful feedback.

(Wanna know what my crack!fic motive was? I was trying to think of a character Lis Sladen's actor husband could play on the series. I know zilch about him except that he's an actor, but I got this whole character in my head. So, if RTD is surfing LJ and wants to turn my story into a script and cast Mr. Lis Sladen as Eddie, who am I to argue?)

Brian Miller (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0587992/) has done Dalek voices and I made a point of taking a look at him as the Kommissar in the Blakes 7 ep "Horizon," and as Dugdale in "Snakedance" (Five). I took note of him as the voice of someone-or-other in the Big Finish audios (in, I think, the one in Romania), and I've spent like 45 minutes now searching for a photo of him to no avail. It's been so many years I have almost no memory of him. I remember a roundish face, blondish hair, generically British (but I'm not even sure of that).

At any rate...this is the most beautiful story ever. THREE of my friends (by last night when I went to bed) had already gushed over it and recced it in their LJs.

I LOVE the story starting and ending with the two italicized lines. I LOVE it.

And, honestly? I love Sarah Jane and my favorite Sarah bit is her tromping through the fields with a little torch, in the fog, in the dark, on an energy high (and, Sarah, honey, is that a ( ... )
