So many kid updates

The kids started school. I get to drive them every day and am loving that (two whole days so far..."morning" hasn't really set in all the way, I don't think). I got to introduce myself to their teachers last week when I dropped off bulky supply items (paper towels, etc.) AND I got to introduce the kids to their teachers ( Read more... )

Do you have a good family physician? Can you get him to give you the appropriate weight-tables for Elf and her age and height? There should be growth-target tables, broken down at least every 6-months for children. If the doctor can show her the "healthy target" numbers on the tables you can help her keep an eye on the scale so she can *see* how well she falls into the "good" range.

That said, the nutritionist at school ought to have something like that as well. It's worth asking about.

I second this suggestion! Good idea.

Gods, non air-conditioned? I can't even begin to imagine the horror. It is great, though, that everything is going so well. Sounds like they're off to a great start at a new school! 8]

Boba smoothies are great. There's a place in Chinatown that has the most amazing I've ever tasted: Joy Yee's, over in the Square. Definitely worth a visit if you're ever over that way. In addition, boba milk teas are delicious as well.

That last bit is worrisome. I understand awareness of weight fluctuation, but to be so obsessed at six years old is a pretty bad indication of the type of standards society is beginning to hold us to.

Aw, good to know the new school year is going well so far.

I would be scared about Elf's weight concerns too - knowing what they could potentially develop into.

The kids have now seen Star Wars episodes 4, 5, & 6 as well as 1 & 2.

I haven't let N & K see the Revenge of the Sith yet. I'm thinking it's just entirely too dark & gory until they get a bit older. They think I'm mean.

And yes, weight obsessions aren't good. I agree with the recommendation about getting a chart from the doctor. I always point out to N that I can tell when she's about to grow an inch or so because all of a sudden her tummy sticks out more than usual. Sure enough, in another week or two it will be flat as a pancake and I have to lengthen her pants. And Elf eats her fruits & veggies, doesn't she?

*hugs* I'm sure she'll be fine. But I'm sure this is also stressing you out. I hope things improve soon.
