Little Swimmer!

This morning we went to the AMAZING local pool in Cape. It was family day/morning, so it cost all of $4.50 for all of us to go as long as we wanted to. The humidity was at reasonable levels. It was in the 70s (pretty sure the LOW 70s), sunny, and the public park pool was surrounded by trees and the cool that they emanate. It was glorious. It ( Read more... )

It was as if we were a Real Family for a bit.

You know, like "normal" people doing "normal" things together and enjoying the company and activity and each other and not fretting. It was lovely.

You're a "real" family regardless. Families are families, and looking at some standard of normal and finding yourself wanting is just going to wear you down and waste energy you can spend elsewhere. (And if the standard of "enjoying the company" makes a family "real," then many families out there are real only a small percentage of the time, hm?)

It's none of my business, really, and I should shut up. But it bothers me when you slight yourself and your family like this, because you *and* your family deserve more. Families are what we make them. You have one, and it's perfectly real, and if it doesn't look like some kind of picture postcard-- so what? Neither did mine. Neither did yours, growing up. Neither does anyone's.

And I am shutting up now, having overstepped my boundaries quite enough for one day.

Totally agree - this is the first thing I picked up on in the post as well. Your family is every bit as "normal" as most other families. By any given definition, no family (and at the same time, every family) can be considered "normal". I only hope that my now-growing family will be as happy and functional as yours is.

It sounds like, other than the weather, you're having a lovely visit so far. I hope it continues to be enjoyable!

I had much Jill's response, although I was going to post, "You ARE a real family. You are not made of wood, you do not need the Blue Fairy to come down and turn you real." (Because 'real boy' is too close to your phrase, and I associated. Just a bit.)

I could go on, but...oh, heck. If I get time I'll e-mail it. So keep an eye on your e-mail.

(And I am VERY glad the pool was available to you!)
