Ben, communication

So Ben's communication skills have been in explosion mode the last month. It's been VERY exciting. He's gone from tugging on hands and directing us to things and the Faceplant of Despair when we can't read his mind to telling us what he wants outright--usually in full sentences!

Thanks. I think the biggest differences have come from the PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System) they're using at school and the fact that, due to extra folks from a local college, he's essentially had a one-on-one aide for the last 2-3 weeks. I'm SO demanding that in his IEP this year.

It really is exciting, though. There is more grammar, a bigger vocabulary, greater memory for language, more volunteering of language and communication, more humor, actual tone--last night he complained, "Moooommmmeeee!" in the perfect "Ew--why are you kissing me in front of my friends" tone when I tried to get him dressed for bed. It was delightful. More and more his speech is comprehensible to those other than just us--and more and more to us as well without us needing to look around the room for context.
