after several doctor's visits, i'm told i have gestational diabetes. it pretty much means that the next few months will be very, very difficult. i'm on a strict diet and have to check my glucose levels first thing in the morning and after each meal. this means i need to prick my finger around 4 times a day if i do things right, and if i mess up, ( Read more... )

Oh dear.

Well, after the birth, would mean you would have to watch your sugar intake as well. Moderation. No deprivation, but definitely be more food-conscious. TEA!!! :D

actually, after the birth, i'll most likely be in the clear. one of my friends would have a bag of dorritos and a box of pastillas de leche every day after she gave birth.

Oh not because of that. It just means you are more likely to get type 2 later on in life, so might as well take pro-active steps to avoid that :D Happened to my godson's mom.

I was also diagnosed with GD when I was pregnant with Seth. I was on a strict diet of no sugar, minimal rice and matchbox-size pieces of meat. My endocrinologist allowed me to have BTIC No Sugar Added ice cream from time to time. And I still indulged on a tablespoon of Peanut Butter one breakfast a week (believe it or not, the local brands have less sugar than the imported reduced sugar ones)

While I was in labor, I had a brownie and after I gave birth, I had donuts.
