After All-Nighters
On nights after the full moon, Howell liked to sit at his kitchen table and clean his gun.
I had several theories that it about it being something he could do sitting down and also so he’d be well-armed while he wasn’t quite on top of his game, but my partner usually told me to shut up and get back to work.
But his scowl never quite reached his eyes, and there was always a good supply of coffee waiting in his kitchen to get us through the day after an all-nighter, and I knew he didn’t really mean it.
