Even on the full moons, Howell was usually calmer than I was. I wasn’t always very good at sitting still, so I brought something with me for the night we stayed down in his ‘werewolf bunker’. A lot of times, it was a book to read out loud, but this month, it was some mending that I had been putting off.
“Yes, I can sew,” I muttered- honestly, how did Howell manage to look disbelieving and amused as a wolf? “Why would you think I couldn’t sew?”
My partner gave a small, laugh-like whuff and I scowled.
“As it happens, sir, I am very good at sewing.”
At any rate, I was very good at mending, given how often I put holes in my clothes. My stitches were small and even, and they were sturdy. The things I mended stayed mended… until the next time I put a hole in them.
I sat against the wall, legs stretched out in front of me, and Howell rested his muzzle on my shin to watch me work. I had three uniform shirts- two with missing buttons, and one with a torn elbow, where I’d broken the fabric against the pavement- and one pair of pants that had a split seam.
And one blue wool wrap tunic, which needed to be taken in an inch or so.
Howell made an interrogative-sounding noise, and I sighed, pausing as I tried to match the fabric to my box of thread.
“Yes,” I said. “This is, in fact, part of my Jedi Knight costume, and I am planning to wear it to the office Halloween party this year. And since you didn’t ask, while most Jedi prefer shades of brown, I think of myself as a Corellian Jedi and they wear different colors.”
My partner huffed another laugh and closed his eyes.
“See if I help you with your costume, sir.”
