Bright, Sunshiny Day
Howell let out a soft noise-I would have called it a whine, from anyone except my partner in his wolf form- as the golden afternoon sunshine slid toward the edge of the roof.
Safe in the shadow of the access door and my wide-brimmed hat, I looked up over the top of my book at him. “Almost time to go in, sir?” I asked. “Any longer and you’ll start to prune.”
“That’s water, rookie,” said Howell, suddenly human again, and I yelped, flailing and undignified.
“Jeez, sir, warn a girl!”
He grinned, still wolf-like, and reached for his pants.
