“After she was gone, Mary turned down the walk which led to the door in the shrubbery,” Gryff read, sitting up against the headboard of her bed. “She could not help thinking about the garden which no one had been into for ten years.”
Levi was already asleep, curled up on her left. Jason was nearly there, propped up on the sociologist’s other side, but Toby was still awake, head on Gryff’s hip. He shifted a little, and she stopped reading.
“Hey,” Gryff said. “Ready to sleep?”
Toby hesitated. “To the end of the chapter?” he asked.
She nodded. “Sure.”
